Global Conference off to great start despite travel disruptions

Hundreds of journalists from around the world gathered at the sixth Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Geneva despite the travel chaos created in Europe by a volcanic eruption in Iceland. The first day began with dynamic presentation by Robert Saviano and was followed by panels on covering the Russian oligarchy, climate change, undercover broadcast reporting and how to organize and finance investigations.

Gangs, pirates, politicians, football fixers and tax dodgers – these are just a few of the shady characters you will learn to expose at the Global Investigative Journalism Network’s upcoming four-day conference, beginning April 22 in Geneva, Switzerland. Other sessions will focus on investigating human trafficking and drug trafficking, as well as contraband tobacco’s link to terrorism. As always, the conference will include workshops on Computer Assisted Reporting, plus new business models for investigative enterprises.

The Global Investigative Journalism network steering committee, who met in Lillehammer in October 2008, has mandated Geneva to host the 6th Global Investigative Journalism Conference.
